We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading, writing Maths
. For maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:
Another thing we have been learning in maths is how to solve word problems involving combinations of things. You had to be able to write addition equations showing as many different combinations as we could.
Some people found it was useful to do your figuring out using a table. But not the kind of table you eat off-a mathematical table.

One thing we did for writing this week was to think of a human emotion or some other idea and then decide which colour would suit it. Then we had to write 5 sentences using our 5 senses saying how that emotion or idea might affect them.

On 22 June 2021, I got to go on a two day trip to Auckland to take part in the Grip Leadership Conference. Mrs Edwards, Mrs B and Shiah’s mum, Nardea were our drivers. We had a great time and the conference was really interesting.

This writing task was about a language experience. Our teachers brought different kinds of chocolate to school and we got to eat it! We tried white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel chocolate and pink chocolate. We could write about it in any way we liked but our teachers hoped we would use lots of describing language and our senses.
